Part of my journey to being healthier has been learning what foods to cook, how to cook them, and making sure my husband and I will both eat it and enjoy it. So, one of the first things I tried was swapping out ground beef for ground turkey. You can do this with just about any meal you are thinking about making – tacos, burgers, spaghetti, the list goes on!
I tried so many different versions of a turkey burger. Some were pretty good, some were REALLY dry, and then I made these. My favorite turkey burger to date. My husband is a little picky when it comes to veggies. He has his favorites – broccoli, zucchini, and recently tomatoes. But overall, trying to creatively sneak in veggies is a task. While these use zucchini (which he likes), this is a such a great way sneak in some greens to the kiddos or picky husband and they’ll never know!!
My favorite part about these, is how easy they are!!! You can change the flavor up with your own seasonings. Sometimes I’ll add a little chili powder for an extra kick, some garlic powder if I’m in the mood for some garlic (don’t get me started on my love for garlic), or sometimes some Italian Seasoning!
I typically grate about 3/4 of a zucchini (per pound of ground turkey), if it’s a smaller one, maybe all of it. This adds a lot more moisture than you would imagine! I like to add maybe an 1/8 cup of bread crumbs and whichever seasonings I’m feeling. This night I was in a hurry and didn’t add anything!
I split this into 4 patties and throw it on the grill!
And my favorite side dish to just about any meal is some lightly sautéed broccoli in olive oil. Just cover it with a lid until it’s tender, then uncover until it starts to brown a little and have a little crunch. My husband and I could eat an entire pan every night!!
I tend to go lower carb in the evenings, as my body does not need the immediate energy source in the evening, so I just eat my turkey patty plain. No bun. I will typically add a slice of tomato and a 1/4 avocado on top. And sometimes a little salsa. So good!
This is definitely, by far, one of my favorite turkey burger recipes and it’s so easy and healthy to make. I make it pretty often and bring it to work for lunch!
